Student Work: Two

This is a self portrait created by an 8th grader.  They photographed themselves in a frontal and profile view using a web cam on the laptop computers and used the photograph to draw the portrait.  We discussed the characteristics of Picasso's portrait paintings.  We used his art as inspiration and created our own pieces.  The students struggled with this project because they thought they looked "funny" and weren't exactly sure how it would turn out.  We use the tempera batik process which is complicated enough within itself.  I believe this was one of the more successful pieces from the class of only 7 students.
